Estelar Spanish Program Overview
Our Stellar Teachers
All of our teachers are native Costa Ricans who are fun, experienced, patient, and dedicated to helping students learn. We regularly train and observe the teachers to ensure that our Spanish classes are the best in Guanacaste. At Estelar, we promote the use of a variety of teaching methods which have been proven to help students advance quickly. Therefore, Estelar teachers prepare a wide-range of activities to make sure that every minute is utilized during class.
Spanish students often develop lasting relationships with the Estelar teachers because they truly care about their students and they are interested in seeing student advancement even after they finish their studies with us. We know that our teachers are the face of our Spanish program, so we are committed to maintaining a high-quality, exceptional staff that is focused on giving each student an unforgettable experience in Costa Rica.
Our Stellar Methodology
At Estelar, we believe that conversation is the best way to practice new material and gain the fluency that is needed when learning a language. For that reason, we employ the communicative method, which means that students are encouraged to speak constantly –up to 80% of every class. Our classes are conducted entirely in Spanish, unless it is absolutely necessary to give a brief explanation in English. Teachers gently but consistently correct spoken errors so that students are understandable, fluent, and able to communicate accurately and with confidence.
Our classes are student-centered, fun, interactive, and effective! We believe in the importance of small class sizes which enable personalized, memorable, and high-quality instruction. Although there is a maximum of six students per class, there are typically three or four – this ensures that each student has plenty of time to speak, ask questions, and receive personal attention from the teacher when necessary.
In our Spanish program, we also utilize a specific communicative methodology called TPRS: Total Physical Response Storytelling. This innovative method uses bizarre and amusing stories to engage students and get them involved by giving them the unique opportunity to create and alter the story themselves.
