In order for our students to meet new people and get extra English practice outside of the classroom, we offer many free Estelar Special Activities each week. The events are announced weekly in classes and on Facebook. We highly encourage English students, Spanish students, teachers, and staff to participate as much as possible.
Estelar Special Activities
Superstar Conversation Club: Each week, our English students have the opportunity to participate in one hour of conversation with a native English speaker present. — Fridays at 5pm in the Institute.
Kids Club: Fun and dynamic activities for kids all in English. Every tuesday at 5pm. at Instituto Estelar Bilingüe. This activity is free and open for the community!
Spanglish Social: Spanglish is a fun, free group intercambio that is open to the public. We meet in a local restaurant and speak in Spanish for 30 minutes and in English for 30 minutes. it is always a great time and students have the opportunity to meet someone new or get to know someone better while practicing English or Spanish with a native speaker — Wednesdays at 8pm in Palermo Bar and Restaurant.
Individual Intercambios: Reception matches an English student with a Spanish student to meet for an intercambio. In this event, the two students converse half of the time in English and the other half in Spanish, correcting each other and making a new friend!
Dance Classes: Learn the Latin dances, such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, and bachata. This class is perfect before going out for a night of dancing!
Cooking Classes: Students get hands-on practice making traditional Costa Rican foods, such as Gallo Pinto, Patacones, Arroz con Leche, and Chifrijo.
Artisan Classes: Learn how to make jewelry from recycled materials, including the seeds native to Costa Rica. The keychains, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings that students create in this class make thoughtful gifts to take home!
Tours: There are several weekend tour options available to students for an extra fee, and we are happy to help students set them up. It is best to sign up in advance as they can fill up quickly. Most tours range from $25 to $100. Some popular tours include things like hiking to waterfalls or volcanoes, ziplining, going horseback riding, swimming in hot springs, soaking in mud baths, doing a boat tour, visiting national parks, and other exciting activities! Students can always hop on a bus ($3) to nearby beaches to surf, go snorkeling, or just relax on the beach.
Estelar Viajes: Take a day-trip or weekend trip to some amazing spots in and around Liberia: beaches, national parks, volcanoes, hot springs, waterfalls and rivers, etc. Amazing places like Rincon de la Viejo, Río Celeste, Santa Rosa National Park, and the country of Nicaragua are about one hour from Liberia. There is always something to do!
