Sand, surf, and learning about myself

Sand, surf, and learning about myself

I love the beaches in Costa Rica more than anything. Right now, my favorite place to go to is Santa Teresa, which is south of Liberia. I went there for a couple weeks with some people I met to check out that side of the country. That beach has to be the most beautiful beach I have ever been too. Even getting to this location is a great sight seeing experience. We took 4 buses, a taxi, and a ferry, so there was a lot to see.

Sand, surf, and learning about myself

The beach is very long, so you can always find your own spot, and the surfing is so good. I love surfing, and one morning I was out there with a friend and a sting rays started jumping the waves and over people surfing. I had never seen anything like it. That was a perfect experience. Santa Teresa will be a hard beach to beat. Even the band Sublime has a song about Santa Teresa Costa Rica.

Living here and managing two jobs – I am an English teacher at Instituto Estelar Bilingüe, and a hostel manager in Liberia – is really showing myself what potential I have. I like how I always have something to do. I know there will be challenging times through both jobs, but I look forward to tackling out whatever comes. Moving to another country has really changed how I feel about life and how I view things. Seeing things as a foreigner really changes the way I think about people. You see life differently. You notice the language barrier and how hard it is adapting sometimes.

Sand, surf, and learning about myselfI feel I am adapting very well here living with a couple of locals and learning Spanish all day. I do wish I could just learn faster because a lot of my friends don’t speak much English. There are things here that I have that I will never forget, good and bad. I love finding more out about myself, and I feel like I really see a difference in my life because of it.
