Teaching English as a second language at Instituto Estelar Bilingüe has really opened my eyes to a lot of things. For example, I’ve noticed how humans react to new information as well as to their classmates in the classroom. I have become a sort of people-watcher as a teacher, seeing how my students talk and interact. I love the students I have at Estelar. My classes are really good and filled with really smart people. But I am a student in the classroom too: I feel the more I get to know my students, the more I know about myself.

I have made so many friends at Estelar, and I’ve been blessed by Tico’s sincerity and generosity. Last night my students and I went to a restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and they got me a cake. They sang me happy birthday, and it was a good feeling to be in good company. It was a really fun time! We practiced English with games and it seems everyone was having a good time. It left me with an optimistic feeling about my future here in Costa Rica.
